The History of Discount Beds

1985 - 1995

Discount Beds was founded in 1985 and started trading from number 30 Rowland Road, a former Sheffield Coal Yard. With founders Gill and Alan Eades at the helm, by 1995 we had achieved 'Silentnight Ultimate Partnership' status which meant that we were an exclusive stockist.

Purchased St Barnabas School on Alderson Road at auction on 26th February 1996 and relocated to the newly renovated premises on 11th June 1996. The School itself was originally opened on the 22nd May 1872! Once we had moved into our new premises, we kept our old premises which is now our warehouse.

Mr Motivator (remember him?) visited with Airsprung beds!

Due to a constantly increasing customer demand, we opened more showrooms in May of 1998

Silentnight Retailer of the Year. We also further extended the showroom in September of 2003, giving us the largest selection of Harrison beds in South Yorkshire!

John Eades, one of Gill and Alan's son's joined the business as Manager in October 2004.

Sadly, the Silentnight Retailer of the Year awards ceased in this year. Probably a good thing as we had no room in the awards cabinet!

Gill and Alan Eades retired from the business leaving John in charge as store manager.

John Eades became the new owner of Discount Beds and introduced a brand overhaul, which included a new logo, new website and the addition of our familiar strapline, "The Value of Sleep".
